Hunting
Huntable species available and price list
One of
the reasons why so many people choose to hunt with
Omatako Hunting
Trails is that one stays within the
picturesque setting of the actual hunting area, which
saves an enormous amount of travel time. All the huntable species belong to us and therefore, one doesn’t
need to worry about the quota system. By Namibian law one is allowed to hunt 2 trophy animals
per species.
Species available on Omatako Hunting Trails are:
Sable,
Waterbuck, Damara Dik Dik, Eland, kudu, Oryx, Black
wildebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Hartman Zebra, Burchell

On
Sandputz, the available species are:

Oryx,

Predators like leopard, Caracal, Cheetah. Sandputz is
the best hunting area to hunt Kudu.
On request other species may be hunted in different
concessions if booked in advance. Please enquire about
species you are looking for when booking. Note that good game birds are also available when in
season - depending on the time of year. Omatako Ranch was selected from
only a few farms in Namibia by the Ministry of
Environment and Tourism (M.E.T) to host Black Rhino
under a custodianship program. The Rhino are often spotted and make for beautiful and

Suggestions for selecting your rifle and bullets
Here
follows a few suggestions for the first time African
hunter on selecting a suitable caliber: The average
shooting distance while hunting with us will be between
100 to 150 yards, so rather go for a slower bigger
caliber rifle. Any 30 cal and bigger performs very well
on the game one is likely to encounter. Recommended
calibers will be 30.06 / .300 Win Mag / .338 Win Mag /
.375 H&H.
If you
have an eland on your which list we recommend .338 or
.375 Rifle.
Almost
more important than your Caliber will be the bullets
which you will be using. African game is known to be
very cautious, but shooting distances will not be long,
although small branches and foliage may present some
challenge, which is why we recommend using a heavier
bullet - We recommend at least 180gr of premium core
bonded bullets like trophy bond bear claw or monolithic
b ullets like Barnes triple shock.
Please,
if you don’t have a rifle, you don’t need to go out and
buy one. Omatako Ranch has various rifles available for
rent.
By law
it’s not allowed to bring any handguns, gross bows,
automatic or semi automatic weapons into Namibia.
